How Important is it that People Should Marry and Remain Married?

Is it important to stay married to the one you love for the rest of your life? The answer is yes! It's sad to hear that the number of cases of broken families, and divorce rates are on the rise. I pity those children who get stuck in between. The true meaning of marriage of the old has been changed and lost throughout the years.

In this technologically-advanced year, one would think that we. can get the basic principles of having a family right. But sadly, the awful truth is no. We can invent all sorts of unimaginable gadgets and come up with all sorts of ideas, but we can;t get the simplest thing in life right! Staying with the one you first married is not as complicated as complicated mathematical equations like, e = mc squared.

Why do I say it's important for people to marry and remain permanently married forever? When we exchange vows during the marriage, isn't it like committing yourself to that person for your whole life? It's a promise to each other, heard in front of so many witnesses. Does it mean the promises made are actually worthless? It's a commitment! Marriage is not a game or something that can be toyed around. And also, it's a promise to God to stay faithful.

How can a family even exist without a permanent marriage? If they are to have kids, how can the children be brought up without even the basic principles? The children will go astray, get mixed up with bad activities. They'll think loving someone is not something to be taken seriously too. The children will lose the basic principles of what a society should be made up of. It would be a pity to lose someone who could be great just because of the neglect of their parents. If this happens in one in every one thousand families, millions of lives might never realize their true potential.

With the basic foundation of a society in shreds, how then can we build a strong nation? Marriage is an institution associated with the family unit. The family unit in turn is the foundation to a society. So, if the foundation is in shambles, how is it possible for the country to be strong?

Don't you agree with me that it's important that people should get married and remain loyal to that person forever?

School on a SATURDAY???

I had school today! On a WEEKEND! Why do we need to replace school for Hari Raya? If they want an extra holiday why didn't the people in charge plan the school holidays and public holidays properly when they were listing out all the school holidays? It gets pretty irritating and tiring when your weekend is cut short.

Why shouldn't there be school on a Saturday? Every student need a rest after a long week at school. You can't expect them to go to school everyday and study. You also need to give us some time to work on our hobbies and interests, and also some time to rest. When can we work on such things if we have to go school on a weekend? By the time we come home from school, it would be in the afternoon already, and we'll be most probably too tired or either no time to work on your hobbies.

The plans we have planned out for that day too also have to be canceled. It's a hassle, you know. Some of my friends rather not go to school but attend their tuitions instead. The reason they give is: "Teacher is not going to teach in school anyway, may as well go tuition. There at least you learn something." At least a quarter of my class today were absent. Furthermore, not all the teachers were at school today...

If the people in charge want an extra holiday for the festive seasons, think of us students also please! It's torturing us when we have to attend school six times a week! I thought they banned replacing of school days already? Can't they follow the rules they planned out?

Korean Praise 2009!

I attended Korean Praise 2009 Alor Star! Only word can describe this, "Awesome"! The singers were fantastic! The saxophonist was superb! The speaker, Daniel Kim, was great! I think many people were touched by his sharing. I know I have. He has led a rather interesting life, born in Korea, raised up in Japan, studied in America, now serving in China. A great man, of a great history.
The Korean team!
The people who attended... (Full House!)
The organizer.
The saxophonist...
The guitarist with Aaron...
Daniel Kim (the speaker)...
Daniel Kim's built sure is something any boy would want to have. I wonder how long did he take to have such built. He did attend military camp in America for a few years, if I'm not mistaken.

Korean Praise is AWESOME!

A Story Essay I Attempted in My English Exam...

It has been long since I attempted a story writing essay, this time, since I had to better question to write, I wrote a story about "A Day Along the River". I hadn't much faith of my essay writing this time, because I decided to write the whole story all over again when I was writing through half-way. But, in the end, I got 40 out of 50 for this essay.

Here goes:
It was just the start of the holidays, the mid-term exam fever was just over, a couple of my friends and I decided to spend the day along the river. We wanted to forget the stress of SPM for awhile. With our parents' permission, we headed down to the Sedim River on a bright Sunday morning. But before that, we had to make a few stops for provisions for the picnic; like a portable stove, some food, and a mat.

As Dan could drive, he drove us all the way to Sedim in his Nissan Serena. The journey took about an hour. We had to encounter a few bumpy dirt roads as only a few people know about Sedim area. When we arrived, the sight was unbelievable. The scenery was just fantastic! I didn't know that crystal clear waters still existed in Malaysia. I thought such rivers had already gone extinct as the rivers everyday I see in the city are either polluted with rubbish, or brown in color. My friends and I, who were crazy about photography, took out our cameras and took a few shots of the scenery. After taking a few photos, we unpacked out stuff. We found a shady spot under a big tree.

After unpacking and setting up the place, we quickly changed into our swimming trunks and costumes. Mat and I, who couldn't wait, jumped into the water. The water was so cool and refreshing. Shuang, who was afraid of the water, was reluctant to come in. She wanted to read a book. It was just like her, always reading. After much persuading, she finally gave in. Wen, who was feeling a little cheeky, pushed her when she was unaware. Then, because of that, for the next 5 minutes or so, all we could hear were only her shouts for help. We tried to calm her down, and tried to encourage her not to be afraid of the water. Soon, she got used to the water and actually enjoyed herself. We swam around, chit-chatting by the rocks. Mat suddenly shouted to us "Would you guys like a game of water polo?" We all agreed eagerly. It has been a long time since we played water polo together. The last time we played when we were in primary school. The boys wanted to play a boy versus girl competition, but the girls said that it would be unfair. In the end, one group had two guys and a girl, the other had two girls and a guy. The competition was an interesting one. Although one group had an advantage of having two guys in a group, the group with girls won the match. We were shocked that Shuang who was scared of the water and her first time playing, scored the most goals! She really had overcome her fear of water. Zhean nearly drowned though. Luckily Mat and I managed to pull him out of the water in the nick of time. He was starting to lose consciousnesses. We had to stop the match for awhile to let him recover. Wen cried, because she couldn't bear to watch such accidents.

After our game of water polo, we headed to the shore for lunch as it was about noon. The boys started the fire of the newly bought portable stoves, while the girls got the food stuff out from the car. Before we started cooking, Wen suggested that we had a competition between the boys and girls to see who can cook better. The boys were reluctant, because they knew they would lose. Mat and Zhean didn't know how to cook at all! After half of hour of trying, the food the boys cooked weren't palatable. We all had a good laugh.

After a hearty meal, we all slowly one by one dozed off, tired from the game of water polo. At about 5, we all woke and went for another swim again. Surprisingly, the water was still cool. Mat began to tell us the physics concept behind this phenomena, but we all shut him off. We spent the rest of the time collecting some shiny and smooth stones for out parents to put in the garden as decorating objects.

At about 6, we began to pack up, and decided that we all must have another outing by the river when SPM is over!
What do you think of my essay?

Happy Father's Day!

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad

Happy Father's Day, Dad!

Howl's Moving Castle...

When I first picked up this book, I thought this book was going to be a boring one. As the introduction of the book was a little boring. But it began more and more interesting as the story went on...

This story is about a family with three daughters. Their father passed away and their mother couldn't afford to keep them at home. So she sent them out, leaving Sophie behind as the next owner of the hat shop, as she was the oldest.

She thought she was living a dull life, so she left the hat shop to seek her fortune. She met Howl the wizard and she became his cleaning lady. Together they encountered many adventures together... The story goes on, but I'm too lazy to summarize the whole story up... :P Read this book by yourself...

There is a also movie based on this book, which I came to know after I read it. I'll hunt for this movie after my SPM! I wanna know whether the movie based on this book is nice or not...

My Rating for this book: 7/10

How about the world in 10 years time? War? Peace? Polluted? Flying cars? Floating houses? Living on Mars?

Curiosity kills the cat.

Night at the Museum 2...

I watched this movie with my dad last week! Night at the Museum 2, "Battle of the Smithsonian"! It was a fantastic comedy movie! I watched this movie at Big Cinemas, Sitiwan.
I found this movie to be rather informative. There were characters of Amelia Earheart, and some other people who made history...

"Kam Puang", a Fu Chow mee...

Well, every time my parents head to Sitiawan to visit my grandparents, they will surely hunt for their favorite childhood foods... And one of their favorites is a Fu Chow mee, called "Kam Puang". I don't really like the texture of the mee, as the mee used is a little different, but I still accompany sometimes when they have their "hunt"s.

My mum found this restaurant selling this "kam puang" near a market in Sitiawan. I'm not exactly sure where this restaurant is located, but the "kam puang" is one of the nicer ones in Sitiawan.
The surroundings of the restaurant...
Another kind of me... I don't know what's its name though...
"Kam Puang"...
I tried the "ice kacang" there too. It's okay larh... Not so nice...
"Ice Kacang"...
Flies...
One thing I hate about this restaurant is that, the place is filled with flies! Tens of them! It's very irritating when one is eating. But, what to do? They need food too, right?

Best Cendol in Perak?

Is James Cendol the best one around in Perak? I should think so! This stall was even highlighted in the Star Metro. My parents brought me here to have this sweet treat with my cousin and my sister. It was just the thing I needed on a hot sunny day...
The stall outside the temple...
The cendol...
My cousin and my sis...
This stall is so popular! The flow of customers never ends. It's definitely something you must try when you visit Sitiawan!

Breakfast at Tow Boo Keong...

i have not been blogging about food for quite sometime already... So, I'll blog about one today!

Just the other day, my mum, my sis and I had "tim sum" breakfast together at Tow Boo Keong... For you info, Tow Boo Keong is a Chinese temple. The front hall has been converted as a restaurant. This restaurant is quite popular among the Chinese. Even on a weekday, there are quite a number people having breakfast there. The food there served there is quite okay, but the service is not so good. But the ambiance is nice.
Tow Boo Keong...
The food served there...
Some more food!
The amount of people on a weekday...
Personally, I think this is the best "tim sum" in Alor Setar. The pricing of the food is like all the other "tim sum" restaurants around. If you like "tim sum", I think this is the place to try...

Concert Perdana 2009...

My friends and I attended this Concert Perdana 2009 at the Auditorium last Sunday. Some of the songs were nice, some were just okay okay. One of the songs were pretty creative though. They used unconventional items to make music. But the song they produced was fantastic! I was amazed at their creativity.

I was also surprised to see some of my friends performing too, like Ann Ann, Murphy and Hazel.
A total of 15 songs were performed that night. There was an orchestra made up of all string instruments and also the piano, a piano solo and duet performance, a song played using rather unconventional items, and also a violin solo.
The orchestra performing...
I liked the song they played "Can Can" from "Orpheus in the Underworld". I think it was the best song among all the songs they performed. The violin soloists were also not too bad...

The song "Seringgit Dua Kupang" played using unconventional items by the Ting-Ting Tong-Tong band, was rather nice and creative! Why can't my school have such kind of performance during Teacher's Day, etc...?

I was impressed by the piano soloist, although the duet wasn't that bad either...
The pianist...
After the piano solo, and duet performance, the orchestra came up again and performed another 5 songs, this time conducted by a guest conductor all the way from KL, Mr. Brian Tan. He is a famous conductor in Malaysia, but somehow, I haven't heard of his name anywhere. Haha...
Mr. Brian Tan conducting the orchestra (top), The end... (bottom)
One for the album!
Overall, I would give this concert a 6 out of 10 rating. It was rather good for a local orchestra, although there were some noticeable errors in the pieces. But, I would like to attend the next concert Perdana, which will be Concert Perdana 2010.

I shall post up some of the videos later... I haven't uploaded all the videos on youtube yet...

MYF Fun Night 2!!!

This post was supposed to be out two weeks ago, because I was just SO busy and had to time to blog about it... Two weeks ago, before the MYF & Committee Tuition Penang Outing, we had MYF Fun Night! I think all the MYF'ers had fun! Well, I did!

We were divided into two groups, apple and orange. The first game for the night was "count how many beans are there in the plastic bag". There were 3 different type of beans in the plastic bag, and the objective of the game was to count the actual number of the beans of different colors in the bag...

The second game was a "guess what's that" game. In this game, you are blindfolded, and you will be given something, and you are supposed to guess what it is. Butter, sugar, CRICKETS, paper were among the things that the participants had to guess...

Today's ASEAN Paper...

Today I sat for the General Ability paper. The paper was just like an IQ test, where you are given nine boxes and you are to fill the box left empty. There are 8 solutions to each question, and you have to pick the right answer.

I found it not too difficult, because last time, I had an interest in this sort of thing. The paper was divided into two parts, Part 1 and Part 2. Part 1 consisted of 8 questions. Part 1 was like a trial paper, where you are given 3 minutes to test the questions, so that you will get used to it when you do Part 2. Part 1 is not marked. Part 2 consist of 36 questions. I finished Part 2 just in time...

We then had a little briefing about the scholarship, about how much allowance we will get, and also the study environment over there in Singapore.

Today's ASEAN Selection Papers...

I sat for my English and Maths ASEAN selection papers today. It was tough! Their Maths standard is like our Add Maths standard but two times harder! I did not expect their Maths paper to be that tough! The format of the paper was also like the format of the Add Maths paper, all subjective.

English on the other hand, was not as tough as I expected to be. There were two papers for this English test, comprehension and summary in one paper, and the other paper essay. The comprehension was not as tough I expected it to be. But the essay was tough! You are only given 30 minutes to complete the essay! And you have to write a factual essay! You have two options though... These are the questions that came up today:
  1. The media (e.g. television) influences the youth of the society.
  2. "Excellence is not based on academic achievements alone."
I wrote the first question, because when I looked at the second question, I was like totally blank!

There were quite a number of Keat Hwa 1 students there too, some of them were my old primary friends, like Swee Yong and the Double Kims, but I didn't get a chance to talk to them. Anyway, I have another paper to sit tomorrow, I better get some shut eye now. Tata...

I GOT CALLED! =)

I GOT CALLED! =)

I'm going Penang tomorrow to sit for the ASEAN test!

It has been my dream to be able to sit for this test since I was form 4! I don't know what to expect in tomorrow's tests! Wish me luck! =)

*Update* After doing some research on the net, I'm beginning to feel a little nervous about it, the test on General Ability is like an IQ test, and their maths test is our form 4 and 5 add maths, but tougher. English consists of comprehension and an argumentative essay, from what I got from the net. I'm nervous! HELP!

Going Down Penang Hill [Part 4]...

After having lunch and activities on the hill, it was time for us to head the bottom of the hill. We were of course not hiking down, but taking the funicular train down Penang Hill. The tickets were RM 3 per person.
Don't miss the train o... The last trains goes at 11:15 p.m.
Aaron ar Aaron... Don't frighten her lar... She just wants to buy the ticket...
The line to buy the tickets were very long, because we had to each buy our own ticket...
Look at us... Squeezing in this small little train...
As all of us wanted to go down at the same times, we had to squeeze. Some more, one of the fans weren't working. I could barely move an inch in there! And it was so HOT!
Rush hour... Everyone getting down as quickly as possible...
We had to change trains half way during the journey. I was glad for that! Or else, I would have fainted by the heat!

Goodbye Penang Hill!
After that, we headed for Queensbay Mall... We had dinner there, and of course had loads of FUN!
