MYF Sunday...

MYF Sunday was a great success! I would like to thank everyone who made it a great success!
A good sign as MYF Sunday starts. There was a heavy downpour round Alor Star at about 4 something. Visibility on the round was almost down to zero.
We had quite a number of ushers. I think 6 were involved in ushering if I'm not mistaken. The 6 are, Suzanna, Yi En, Loh, Sam, Jia Wen and Aaron...
There were quite a number of MYF'ers who participated in this event. And there were even a few non-Christians young people involved in it!

Here are a few pictures of the presentation. We did it choir like style this year...
Joyce singing her solo part..
The musicians...
MYF SUNDAY ROCKED!

Life These Past Few Days..

I've not updated my blog for the past three days, mainly because I was very busy with some stuff.

Today, we had MYF Sunday at church, I'll blog more about it later. But I would like to thank all the MYFer's and counselors for making it a great success!

Unknown Sadness...

I don't know what am I sad about... My poor exam results? Or my incapability or mixing with other people? Or just... I don't know?

I feel like giving up. I feel like breaking down.

I did pretty badly in my last monthly test. I failed my Chinese. And nearly failed Biology and Moral. Haih. I really need to do some serious bucking up.

Sighs.

Is It Necessary to Impose Curfews on Teenagers below 17?

What actually does the word "curfew" actually mean? It can defined as a child has to be back by a certain time that is set by parents for children. In my opinion, I think it depends on the situation. But in general, I think it's necessary to impose a curfew on teenagers below 17.

Why do I say it's necessary? Here are a few reasons to support my stand. Firstly, a curfew should be set so that teenagers get their beauty sleep. If not, sometimes, teenagers would be out hanging out with friends till the wee hours in the morning. This would also affect their mental alertness the following day. If it's a schooling day the following day, this would affect their concentration and ability to learn.

Another reason to support my stand on why curfew should be implemented is because the likelihood of the teenagers getting involved with bad company is greater. These teenagers will hang out in bistros and pubs, and this will lead them to other bad activities, like gambling and drinking. And also, in the cover of darkness, when the roads are empty, the likelihood of getting involved in an illegal race would be greater.

Setting a curfew for teenagers with friends and family is important to ensure teenagers spend sufficient time with their family to strengthen family bonds. This is also to ensure that the parents know what their child is up to and to make sure their child is not involved with bad company.

In conclusion, curfews should be set for teenagers below 17.

Back to School Again...

After an eventful holiday, it's back to the boring old school routines... Waking up so EARLY in the morning, and back home in the hot afternoon sun. I wish holidays lasted forever, but that's just impossible.

Exploring the outside world is just so much more fun that studying boring old books. There are just so many things to learn in the outside world.

It's back to school again tomorrow. Haih...

My Second Day @ Sitiawan...

This hols, my parents decided a short stay in Sitiawan, because my father had to work. On the way home to Alor Setar, I took a few pictures.
A ship yard...
During the journey out to the highway, I saw some posters about politicians... Maybe you too can get a good laugh after reading what they painted on the canvas...
We stopped at Auto-City for dinner. This has become a pit-stop for either dinner or lunch each time we travel back from Sitiawan to Alor Setar. We had dinner at The Manhattan Fish Market this time.
The Manhattan Fish Market
A portion of what we had...
The whole meal cost a bomb! The bill totaled up to RM 156 for just the 6 of us. Comparing to yesterday, the meal was only RM 56 for 6 people! But I must say, the fish served was superb!
One last look before saying goodbye to The Manhattan Fish Market...

Ah... Another holiday gone...

My First Day @ Sitiawan... [Part 2]

Continued from Part 1...

After watching Mamma Mia the movie again, my father decided to drive down to Ayer Tawar to visit Living Water Sanctuary (I think that's the name of the church :P). Here are a few shots of the of the church... And I must say the church is rather nice!
The exterior. The sign of the church is not out yet..
The interior of the church (back)...
I also took a few random shots in Ayer Tawar, and those shots will be out soon! =) As it was lunch time, we hunted for food round Ayer Tawar, but found no where to eat. So, we headed down to Lumut, but also to no avail. In the end, we ended up in Pizza Hut in Sitiawan.
Pizza Hut...
But before that, we had the famous cendol in Sitiawan, near the temple. It's just as nice as the last time I ate it.

The stall. As usual, there were people eating there...

The famous cendol with pulut...
At night, my parents took my grandparents for dinner at this restaurant. And I must say, the food served there is very nice and cheap. The meal costed RM 56 for the 6 of us...

My First Day @ Sitiawan... [Part 1]

My parents wanted to go visit my grandparents in Sitiawan. And, I for some reason, they decided take off to Sitiawan at 6 in the morning!!! We arrived in Sitiawan at about 9:30 a.m...
My parents, as usual had their favorite mee, "kam puang" in their favorite stall @ the "Choong Kwok Restaurant".
"Kam Puang"
I do not why they like this mee so much, but I eat it only when I'm forced to... I had keow teow soup there. It wasn't as nice as the ones sold in Alor Star, but still edible.
After that, we headed to my grandparents' house. Later in the afternoon, my father took my cousins to The Store to buy some toys for them. My cousin, Shaun wanted a soldier set, while my other cousin wanted 4 water-guns so that it could be shared among them. But alas, one of the water guns broke after being drove over by my father's car, because Shaun didn't keep them after playing.
The Store...

VIRUS ATTACK!

I was scanning my computer yesterday, and to my horror, there were 102 viruses! 3 infections, 4 spy-wares and 95 warnings! I wonder how much information has the hackers obtained from my computer.

I think if I used a better antivirus program, there will be more viruses to be detected and deleted. People... Scan your computer once a week or once a month to prevent your computer from being infected or data loss, or leak.

Biology... Exploring Levels of Biological Organization... [Part 2]...

Continued from part 1. The sixth level would be organisms. Many organ systems form an organism. This and the following 3 levels are familiar to me, as I've learnt it in lower secondary. An organism are individual living things. We, humans are organisms too, multicellular organisms to be exact.

Organisms of all individuals of a species living within the bounds of a specific area form a population, the 7th level in the biological organization.

Communities, the next level, can be defined as the entire array of organisms inhabiting a particular ecosystem.
Moving on the next level, the ecosystems. Life does not exist in a vacuum. An ecosystem consists of all the living things in a particular area, along with the non-living components of the environment, including the air we breathe! An example of an ecosystem a forest in Malaysia. It is made up by many communities.

The biggest level of biological organization is the biosphere. This was new to me. The biosphere, consists of all the environments on Earth that are inhabited by life. It is made up by many ecosystems.

At last, I've finished writing about all 10 levels of biological organizations. =) It was interesting right? Haha...

Biology... Exploring Levels of Biological Organization... [Part 1]...

I can remember when I was in lower form, we learnt 4 of the levels of biological organization only. But, after reading a sub-chapter of Chapter 1, I now know that there are actually 10 levels.
From the smallest level to the biggest level... The smallest level, is of course, molecules. Everything starts with that, even non-living things are made up of molecules. A molecule is a chemical structure consisting of two or small chemical units called atoms. Let me use an example of a organelle. Let's say chloroplast, it has chlorophyll molecules. This chlorophyll molecule plays an important role in the plant, as it absorbs sunlight so that photosynthesis can be carried out.
Moving on the second level, the organelle. Many cells form an organelle. The nucleus is an example of an organelle. You need a powerful microscope to see an organelle.
The third level, is cells. Different organelles make up a cell. A plant cell consists of organelles, for example, chloroplast, nucleus, cell wall, etc... A cell is about 25 micrometers across. It will take 700 cells to reach across a Malaysian 1 sen coin.
A tissue, is made up from a group of similar cells. With a normal microscope, we can see the tissues of a plant. There are many types of tissues even in our human body. Examples are our smooth muscle tissue, our nerve tissues, etc...
From tissues we move on to organ and organ systems, the fifth level in the biological organization. As we all should know now, an organ is made up by many different type of tissues. For example, in our human body, we have many organs. Our heart, kidneys are a few examples of organs. Organs that carry out the same function can be organized into organ systems. For example, our human digestive system includes organs like our tongue, stomach, and intestines.

The next 5 levels will be out soon in "Biology... Exploring Levels of Biological Organization... [Part 2]...". So stay tuned for more info.

Bullies In School...

These few months, after school has restarted from the end of the year hols, more and more news are coming out about bullying in schools week by week.

In Mentakab, Pahang, a 15 year-old schoolboy was assaulted by 10 schoolmates. In another case, a Form 3 student was burnt with hot iron by his seniors when he refused to buy them cigarettes.

Why are there so many bullying cases happening around Malaysia? What more the world? I can now understand why the discipline teacher is the worse job to have in a school...

How are bullies made? There is a saying that goes, "Beat or be beaten". Some students become bullies, because when they first entered school they were bullied by their seniors. And this built them into a bullies themselves, out of anger. Some students bully, just for pure fun. Some bullies are made because they had no one to talk to at home, because their parents were mostly either out working to put food on the table, or do not care at all for their kids.

So, how do you prevent bullying from happening? Schools should instill strict punishment for bullying cases, and also counseling classes for those who bully. Because maybe after counseling, the bully might change into a new leaf. Schools should also instill zero tolerance policy on bullying to ensure that there is efficient enforcement on the rules.

There is this old saying that goes "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." This all nonsense! Sometimes words hurt people more than physical pain. Some people just don't understand.

What do you think?

Biology Competition Quiz...

I'm going to take part in a Biology Competition Quiz on the 30th of April, I think... And I'm planning to read up a super thick book on Biology. There are 8 units in the book I'm reading, and 55 chapters. And I need to read the whole book in a month.

I've look through the pass year questions, and they are pretty hard. I can't make sense of some of them. But, I hope I'll be able to understand them once I have completed the book.

Wish me luck!

An Afternoon Out With Friends...

My mother allowed me to spend my afternoon out with my friends at Alor Star Mall. There 6 of us who went. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures. We went to watch Street Fighter, one of the new movies, at Big Cinema. The movie ticket was RM 10 per person. So EXPENSIVE!! The fighting scenes were awesome!

The only scene I find it so FAKE is when Gen teaches Chun Li one of the kung fu methods. It was so FAKE!

I rate this movie 7/10.

My Exam Results Are Back!

I predicted right I wasn't going to do well this monthly test of mine. I have gotten back 2 papers, Maths and English. And I must say, I'm not too pleased with my results. Sigh! I must study harder for my next exam. But words are easier to say than to do.

I did a lot of careless mistakes in my Maths paper. I only got 83, when other people got higher. The highest was 98, Xuelin of course, the bookworm. Haha... My English paper was... well... I was pleased with some parts and disappointed in some parts of the paper. If only I had read through my literature thoroughly, and I would have scored 90+. I only scored 84 this time. I lost marks mainly in my literature. I did not make a single mistake in my comprehension! I was happy for that. Oh well, what is over, is history. You can't change it, but what I can change is the future... I must learn from my mistake this time, and not repeat the same mistake next time...

Medical Screening...

Yesterday was the second Medical Screening Programme held by our church... The first one was held last October.

This talk was for women only, as the talk was about cervical cancer.

It's not for me! It's for girls ONLY...
What actually is cervical cancer? It's a malignant cancer in the cervical area. This cancer is caused by this virus called the "Human Papollomavirus". This is the only cancer that has a vaccine for it. There are 150 types of this HPV virus. But of the 150 types, there are only 15 high-risk types...

Who are at risk of this cancer? Mostly women with many sexual partners. So girls, have only one partner. Do not be too greedy. LOL!
The people who attended...
There were quite a number of people who attended this talk, mostly women of course.

The registration counter...

The doctors... preparing...
The HIGH TEA!!!
I think this programme organized by the church has been a great success! There were good support from the church members and also from some of the youth. I think this is a good way reaching out to people... =)

A Danger to the Society...

I took this picture on the way to church to help out in the Medical Screening Programme just now...

On the way, I managed to take this picture of the lorry before my father overtook it. How can the police allow such vehicles on the road? Look at the lorry, it's lopsided. And the two poles are broken.

Or is it on its way for repairs? But, should it at least have a warning sign? So that drivers will know to keep some distance away from the lorry?

My Day, Today...

I have not been in the house for more than 2 hours today. From 7:30 in the morning till 10:45 p.m... Tired. In the morning, I had Chemistry tuition in SKOR. I just joined today. The teacher is a very good teacher, Mr. Ch'ng. I like his way of teaching. It's much better than my school teacher's (not to say her teaching is bad...).

After that, I followed my mum around town. She had to do a few errands. Then, we went to pick my sister from church school, then run another errand, then straight for lunch with Aunty Nancy and Loh.

Later in the evening, I went for MYF. I had to be there early because I was involved in the worship team. And I had to stay back after MYF to practice for the worship on Sunday. I had to miss my friend's birthday party because there were no drummers to play... Sigh! I wanted to go very much... But, looking on the brighter side, I did have fun in MYF too... =)

And btw, there is a Medical Screening talk held in the church tomorrow, at 2p.m. All are welcome...

School Uniform - Good Tradition or Outdated Habit?

School uniform, is it a good tradition or outdated habit? School uniform has been there since schools were established. In my opinion, I think wearing the school uniform is an outdated habit. A school uniform can be defined as a specific dress code, set by the education department.

Why do I say wearing a school uniform is a bad habit? It means wasting money and time to buy specific school uniforms set by the education department. Why can't students wear jeans. or shorts with a T-shirt to school? It means saving money, because you need not buy extra clothes. The current school uniform is also quite uncomfortable, because the current dress code for boys is white shirt and long pants. in a hot country like Malaysia, wearing long pants can be sometimes quite unbearable.

Furthermore, wearing the same old thing everyday can be a bore. Everyone's wearing it, where is the creativity? Where is the freedom of expression? Choices of clothes to wear to school can denote one's identity. The current school uniform is not up to date with the latest fashion too. Teenagers, like to be up-to-date with the latest fashion. In Australia, students have the freedom to wear anything they like to school, as long it's proper. Why can't teenagers in Malaysia follow suit too?

The specific dress code should be abolished! Students should have the freedom to wear anything they like to express their identity. School uniforms are outdated!

My Exams Finally Over!

Am I glad! My monthly test is FINALLY over! But I sure am dreading the next week of school though. It's the week where all my test papers will come back. Sigh!

I'm not expecting to do well in this exam. Mainly, because I didn't study much for it. Haha. I only started studying seriously few days before exam, which I think wasn't good enough. But... We'll see...

The few subjects I'm expecting to see red marks: Biology and Chinese. I know my Chinese is a guaranteed fail, because I wrote out of topic. Sigh.
