The storm was violent...

What will you think of in a storm? How do you describe a storm? Come to think of it, it is quite hard to write a good descriptive short passage of a storm.

Here is what I thought of:

Dark and heavy clouds filled the sky. Lighting streaked across the sky illuminating the cityscape briefly. Heavy rain started to fall, pelting everything in its way. The ground shook, and glass were heard shattering, probably caused by an earthquake a few mile away. The twister looked so near, sending debris flying in the sky. The wind was howling like a banshee, causing children to scream. Water was seen flowing down from a nearby hill bringing down mud, covering the houses and cars right below the hill. No one would know there once a house stood there. Thunder was booming away like canons were firing. Lightning stroked a tree and it started to burn. People ran heater-skelter to seek safety. Chaos and panic reigned.

What do you think of my piece?
