Next Reading Spree!!! =)

I bought these books today! =) The cover looks a little girlish though, but I thought I'll give it a try. I hope the books are nice to read, as nice as Twilight I hope... Or Harry Potter. I've finished all the Harry Potter books... But I have no time to blog about those yet. Maybe, next week, or tomorrow, I'll blog about the remaining books. My parents have not been allowing me online as frequently as during the school holidays. =(

My Day, Today.

My day started by having breakfast with A. Molly and A. Nancy. After that, we sent my sister for her church school. It was the first church school held at the new sanctuary! =) Church school has moved! For those of you don't know what time it is, it starts at 10:30 a.m.

After that, I went to play squash with my friends. We are training for the upcoming squash competition. Wish us luck! =) Poor Joseph had to cycle to ASRC. The weather was so hot.

Learning to Let Go...

One of the hardest things in life is probably letting go someone that you truly love so dearly. Have you ever felt this way before? I did and still am. It's even tougher if you see the person you love everyday. I'm learning and still trying, but still have not succeeded.

I've told myself not to get distracted this year. This year's my crucial year. This will determine my next step in life. But, sigh! Why is it so complicated? Why am I am a victim of this injustice?

I'm learning how to let go,
but somehow I just can't...

but the feeling is too great...

Memories @ School... [Day 5]...

The first week of school has passed! Time flies! It seemed like yesterday school just reopened. Soon, months would have passed. And hopefully, SPM. LOL! SPM is approaching!!! How? Today, the teachers gave us forms to register what subjects we were going to take. I'm scared! I really need to buck up! My hope for SPM is to score straight A's in SPM, but looking at my result now, it's near impossible. Chinese and Malay shall be my Achilles heel. I've been doing badly in Chinese since day one I started learning it. And I also need to really buck up on my Physics, Chemistry and Accounts. Those subjects are killing me.

Chemistry today, was rather relaxing for a change. She gave us homework to do instead of continuing teaching. My Moral teacher miraculously came to class today. He gave us the details on what we should do on our moral folios. Stupid folios! Grrr!!!

English lesson, Si Tenggang's Homecoming again. For the past one week, she has been teaching the same thing! My Mathematics teacher has taught finished the first chapter. He's going to teach the second one on Saturday. I think the second chapter is going to be one tough one.

Today, after recess, we had to meet up in our respective sports group. I'm in Yellow. Our group won last year! YEAH! GO YELLOW! LOL! This year's practice is at 3:30 in the afternoon. Why hold practice at that time??? It's freaking HOT! What do the teachers want us to be? Burnt?

The rest of the periods went on as usual. And oh, this Saturday we're going to have replacement classes for Chinese New Year. Sickening. First week of school need to start having replacement classes already.

Mood: Unhappy.

Chemistry... Preparing Salt....

There are two types of salts, soluble and non-soluble. There are two ways to prepare soluble salts, I think. That's what I learned in chemistry class today. Why in the world do we need to learn about how to make this kind of salts? Will we ever use it, high unlikely unless we get into a field related to it, like chemical engineering?


Well, the first method to form soluble salts is by mixing an acid and an alkali through a process called titration. The product of this process is dilute salt solution. Then, we let it evaporate until we get a saturated salt solution. After getting the solution, we cool it or let it undergo a process called crystallization to turn the solution into crystal form. The salts created from this process will contain either sodium, potassium or ammonium ions.

Another method is by reacting acid with metallic oxides, metals or carbonates. The reaction produces salt solution and excess solid. It is then filtered to separate the salt solution and the solid. Once it's filtered, we let it dry or cool it to get dry salt crystals. Any salts with impurities can be purified by the process called recrystallization.

Insoluble salts on the other hand, are made by a totally different method, that is through double decomposition, by using the precipitation method. I don't understand what it means by double decomposition... Someone explain to me? Haha...

Going Back to School... [Day 4]....

It's already the fourth day of school. Time passes so fast. My days left in school are numbered and is decreasing day by day. SPM is in 250+ days time. Something to worry about. I wonder how can I use the time remanding before SPM wisely.

Chemistry! Chemistry! Chemistry! I used to like this subject a lot, before it got so hard. Note, used. After reading through and being taught in class on chapter 8, form 4; salts, I began to feel differently towards the subject. What actually is salt? It's something that we use everyday. It's used food preservative, food flavoring, medicine, and other stuff. Salt in the scientific way can be defined as a compound formed when a hydrogen ion from acid is replaced by a metallic or ammonium ion from a base. I have one problem though, determining whether it is a salt or not. Salts can be divided into two types, soluble and non-soluble salts, according to the Form 5 textbook. We also learned how to construct ionic equations using the continuous variation method. It's so complicated! It thought Physics was hard enough, chemistry is worse.

During the Moral lesson, again the teacher did not enter class again. Out of 4 days, he entered once only. English and Mathematic went on as usual. My English teacher is still teaching Si Tenggang's homecoming. It's getting kinda boring hearing her teach.

Today, instead of history and bio classes, we had something different! A first-year medical student came to give a talk about the reproductive system. She showed us a video from YouTube. I found that video from YouTube also. LOL!

She later then did a powerpoint presentation and gave us an overview of the reproductive system.

Chinese period AGAIN! One problem with his class is, sometimes I don't understand what he is talking about. My grasp of Chinese is so POOR!

We're still using a temporary timetable now. We're having the same timetable everyday for the next 1 week, I think. It's getting pretty stressful learning Chemistry EVERYDAY!

West Imperialism in South-East China in the Past...

In Form 5 History, in the first part of chapter 1, it talks about imperialism. I wonder why this is even taught. What do we learn from it? Learn that, if we're not strong enough we'll be overwhelmed? We also learn the effects before and after imperialism. And also the factors that cause imperialism to happen. What do we learn from these?

The Westerners who conquered South-East Asia did it for similar reasons. Among the Westerners who came were the Spanish, the British, the Portuguese, the French and other Western powers. The first place conquered was Malacca by the Portuguese 1511. The Spanish took the Philippines. The French took Indochina. Indochina at that time was made up of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. At present time, they are all now independent countries.

The main reason the Westerners came here was because of the natural resources. Malaya was rich in tin and is still now. At that time, the Industrial Revolution was ongoing, and they needed resources. They found it in South East Asia. They also conquered South East Asia, because it was strategically located. It was at the mid-point of China and India. They wanted to sell their stuff to them. The Westerners were also competing among themselves for land, to show who was the strongest and also for national pride. Another factor that allowed imperialism in South East Asia was the invention of the ships powered by steam and also the completion of the Suez Canal. This shortened the journey by quite a bit. They also had a slogan, "White Man's Burden". They claimed that they were more modern and civilized and it was their job to make the people here civilized too and to make their lives easier (which was clearly not their main intentions).

It's rather fascinating to learn this all, but what is the main purpose of learning this?
