OMK 2011!

Set two different alarms to make sure I woke up for this competition. I had to drag myself out from bed at 6 just to get to school and be on time to board the bus to UNIMAP, Perlis. It seems that Kedah and Perlis hopefuls were scheduled to sit the OMK papers together.

I'm sure you would be in the dark what is OMK all about, if you have never heard of OMK before. Well, OMK stands for Olimpiad Matematik Kebangsaan, a mathematics competition, which is held annually, to select Malaysia's Maths champion to represent Malaysia in the World Mathematics Olympiad. My form, had 5 representatives, all guys, 3 from my class. :D

Students all around Perlis and Kedah met at the centre an hour before the test started, as required. Kolej Sultan Abdul Hamid also sent representatives with at least 8 from Form 6. I happened to know a few of them who came. :D

Sitting for OMK is something new for me. I've not sat for this competition before. It was rather a urmmm... not much of a new experience. Sharing a little about the test... The competition lasts for 2.5 hours. There are 9 questions in this competition. 6 questions requires just the answer, while the remaining 3 requires you to show the working for the solution. The 6 front questions, if answered correctly, will be awarded 2 marks each, while the behind 3 questions if answered correctly with the correct steps will be awarded 6 marks each. And I must say, the questions are not easy!

Can you imagine that the OMK questions had mistakes? Not minor errors, but a MAJOR error! Halfway through the competition, they asked us to change one of the question's positive sign to a negative sign. Such errors shouldn't be made in the first place! Isn't this a Kebangsaan competition?!? What happened to the checking and double-checking of the questions?

Overall, I know I stand no chance in this competition, they others are just too good. I didn't know how to do quite a number of questions. This just shows how weak I am in Mathematics. :( One of my junior, could answer all (except for one question, which he wasn't quite sure of). I guess he will be the champion for this district. :D Keat Hwa boleh!

Anyway, it was fun! I quite enjoyed myself. :D

Carolling 2010.

It's the time of the year, where the spirit of joy, thanksgiving and hyper activeness is in our hearts! All to celebrate the remembrance of the birth of Jesus Christ. :D
It's also time to sing our hearts out! Eat till we're bloated! And have fellowship with one another!It's a pity that these festive moods only come about during Christmas time. We should always be glad because of the birth of Jesus Christ that has changed our lives.But all the same, I did have fun this year (which I had doubts of), although the year to come would be a rather stressful year. Hopefully, next year this time, I can say to myself, "I've tried the best I could for STPM and am confident to can a result good enough to further my studies."

MYF Christmas Party 2010.

Christmas is over! :(

2010 is over! :(

Sorry this post is a little late. I have been pretty busy lately, preparing and celebrating Christmas, and camps before and after Christmas. :)
This year's Christmas Party wasn't as big as last year's, but it was still big. More than 100 people came and celebrated the birth of Jesus. :) Of course, a third of the people were MYFers themselves. Anyone interested in attending MYF? MYF, for the year 2011 will begin this coming Friday at 7.30 p.m. Do come! :)"Paddle-Pop, Lolli-Pop, Super Duper Yummy!" Quoted from Joseph. :P

Everyone who attended had fun one way or another... I hope. :)For those of you who missed it. You missed the turkey! That's why you should have came!

This year, MYF wanted to make the party more like those in the Western countries, where turkeys are served in Christmas dinners. MYF ordered 2 turkeys (if I'm not mistaken)! And it was all sapu'ed'.
Many DSLRs could be seen roaming around too! haha...
The dance performance (for those of you who attended would know), was choreographed by me. :D The idea was sort of copied from somewhere else (for those who know, shhhh!), but not the dance moves. :) AND, we DID NOT use glow sticks! :D

The video of the dance will be out soon. :) The skit, was all done by Timothy and his crew. Only the video was done by me. I'm not sure whether the whole video will be posted online. The plot was based on the book/movie "My Sister's Keeper". Read or watched the movie before?I could not help but post this picture here. :P Don't kill me! haha.Anyway, after the party, more celebrations! At KFC. haha... All of us, tired out, except for the younger ones, and Edward (if you still consider him young... :P) were hyper! Edward, full of energy since Day 1 of preparations till today, is still very hyper (even after camp)!One for the album!
Looking forward to next year's Christmas. For now, it's back to school! :(

Outing With Friends. :)

I went for a movie @ Alor Setar Mall just now with a few friends of mine. We watched this movie "Skyline". The cinema was surprisingly empty.

Anyway, the trailer may show that it's a movie with high graphics and all, the story-line is rather slow moving. And I think they'll be Skyline 2 coming out soon, as the ending was left hanging.

Outing to Kuala Kedah!

After Chem tuition, Tim called me, asking me whether I wanted to join them for a mini outing to "burn some time" (according to him) at Kuala Kedah to see whether the castle (palace) there is still open to visitors. According to him, the castle was still open when he last visited the castle when he was in primary school. But as I recall, the last time I visited that place (when I was Form 2 I think), is was closed, due to repairs.And it turned out, I was right, it is still not open to public. I wonder what they are doing with the building. Anyway, the sunset was worthwhile. But the condition of the Kuala Kedah beach is terrible! It's filthy! It's smelly. Rubbish is seen streaking everywhere!.. old shoes, paper cups, even bags! The sand is also black-ish in color, I suspect is due to the dirty sea water that is contaminated with oil.
Just look at the amount of rubbish! And this is just one part of the whole area. I wonder, if they clean the place up, treat the water, and make the place into a resort, with proper maintenance, I am sure it'll be a success!

Where in Alor Setar can you find places with such beautiful sunset scenery? Almost no where in Alor Setar, unless you are at City Plaza's top-most floor's car parking area.Anyway, the outing was overall fun! Joseph's car mati"ed" engine once when going up the steep bridge. He complained so much because he had to use his bukit skills four times! LOL. He also failed going up without sliding back on another bridge. Maybe he should retake his license! =P

Step Up 3!.... @ AS Mall.

Step Up 3! I'm impressed... for it's choreography (mainly). The plot was, predictable? Oh well, I'll come to that later...

I was late in arriving in Alor Setar Mall. Jane, W. Lynn, Wei Ping and Goay had already arrived. I was delayed at the post office. At least I wasn't the last to arrive. Hahaha... Sunny arrived a minute of two later than me. we missed the first 5 to 10 minutes of the movie, too bad. And oh, I saw Susu Hean fetching a 5 girls home in his car. xD

The plot was rather predictable...? When Natalie appears in the movie, I was thinking to myself, will she be the one betraying the "Pirates"? It turned out that I was right. =D

The movie was about this guy named Luke, a dancer-cum-filmmaker which is desperate for money to pay back loans from the bank to avoid being evicted from his only home, a warehouse that's a haven for dancers! He hunts for fresh talent and finds Moose, and Natalie. In order to repay the loans, he and his team has to win the World Jam Competition which has a whooping prize money of 100K. However, it complicated here and there, as the team breaks up and reunite again.

I believe, the film is only nice for it's dancing, and "WOW" factor? I like the choreography. Moose is a great dancer! I wished I could dance like that, but I guess it's too late to learn. Me bones have harden. =S

Anyway... I WANT TO WATCH IT AGAIN!

Sixth Form Night! =D

Sixth Form Night! A night just for the Form Six people. I guess it's one of the perks for staying back for Form 6.When I was clearing up last night after the event, I compared Keat Hwa with my previous school, Keat Hwa II. And I must comment that there are VAST differences. I can't remember my old school allowing such events or being till this late at school (except for camps). Or maybe I'm a little outdated. =S I was at Keat Hwa until 11:30+ P.M. last night, and I think the others went back much later.
Last night was a blast! Agreed?

At least I know someone agrees with me...

My class's male candidates for Mr. Form 6. Just in case you are wondering what's that, it's a urm... title?... that will be with you till you graduate. Each class before this, would have to select their two "couples" to represent the class to compete against each other for the title of Mr. Form 6 and Miss Form 6. To win, he or she must get the most votes from the audience!

The audience. We had a poor response from the Upper Sixes, but I guess it couldn't be helped. Either they were busy with something else, or to some, they weren't informed, or because it's the month of July (Hungry Ghost Festival), etc. But, because everything was done in a rush, it just couldn't be helped.One of the candidates of Miss Form 6. The Sixth Form Society committee had prepared a dance, called the "Stick-Man Dance". It was just AMAZING! And, the first practice for the dance was just done in the morning! I think it was the best performance among all, right?The winners of Mr Form 6 and Miss Form 6, with the Mr and Miss Form 6 of 2009.

Just to let you guys know, all the preparations, the "stick-man" dance, decorations, etc... was all done after the Lower 6 exam, and that was just one day before the actual Sixth Form Night. =) Impressive, eh?

Looking forward to next years' Sixth Form Night... but there is one plus point next year, we're NOT THE ONES PLANNING! xD

Keat Hwa Form 6 Basketball Competition! =D

Last Saturday, Sixth Form Society organized a basketball competition just for the Form 6s. =) Every form 6 class had to at least send out a team as representatives. It was COMPULSORY!

With only having 9 boys in my class, we all agreed to participate, except for the away-band member, Navine, and ZW. We all just participating for fun, and for the piece of paper for marks. We already knew our fate before we even played. We were sure to lose terribly against the upper sixes and also other lower six classes, especially the class with a school basketball team player. Basically, we all weren't basketball players! Haha...
Saturday morning came, the weather was fine, just right for the competition. It had been raining for the past few days, and we didn't want the matches postponed. It would mean more hassle for us. =S

Highlights of the matches we played.

Our class had to play 3 games. If we were top 2 of the group, we would enter the semis and then the finals. BUT unfortunately, we didn't win any games though, but I think we did put in our best, right? =D And, at least we didn't lose terribly to the other teams like we thought we would. We DIDN'T GET 0 for ANY of the games we played! =D

Our first game was against U6S2. The final result after the first half and second half of the game was 2-6. I scored! Once... LOL!

Our next game was against L6S4. This was one of the stronger teams among the 8 teams. The had whipped L6S3 21-0 before they played against us. We managed to scored once, against their rather strong defense. The final score was 2-9. Cha Meng scored once. =)

I didn't stay for the third game though (against L6S3). I had Mohan tuition to attend to. =S

And throughout the whole competition, the St. John people were standing there like statues. I wonder how bored they were... =P

Potato Experiment! =D

Potato Experiment! The first experiment of the year for us Form 6rians! =D

The experiment was basically to see how the state of potatos after being immersed in sucrose solution of 30 minutes, meaning whether it will be turgid, or flaccid.

Anyway, Wei Ping and I were in a group, NZW and LSS were busy preparing for Puan Ho's birthday, and Navine was as usual, ABSENT (=P)!
We had... fun? =D Look what Nandika did... She had TOO MUCH time while waiting for the 30 minutes to be up... =DShe cut alphabets from the remaining potatoes, maybe she wanted to cook fried potato that is alphabet-shaped for someone special =P.

After school, I took my car for its first service! I must say the Perodua centres are very customer-friendly. They provide you light refreshments, tables (if you wanna do stuffs like reading newspaper, or in my case, do homework...), a TV which has a movie on, magazines, etc... A place that you can pass time while waiting for your car is being serviced. =)

P.S. Don't ask me how I got the photos, i'm not telling. =D

PLKN Friends! =D

I must say having new friends in NS has made my days in National Service pass much faster (MUCH MUCH faster) than I imagined it would be. Comparing to the first few days in NS, time was passing very VERY SLOWLY for me. And the only people I hung around were my two schoolmates, and fyi, one of them has already left. And it was a little hard for us to get to know the other people, because we were all introverts. Now, time is now literally flying by me. I can consider myself having a good time in NS. And, I SERIOUSLY can't imagine that a month of NS has already passed by.

Youth Seminar in KT (SUSOM =D)... [Part 1]

Ah! Everyone woke up early today! Why? Because we're going to KUANTAN! And we need to put our bags into the cars.

Breakfast, was at the market. And oh, there is one thing you shouldn't order in Kuala Terengganu, and that's their "char kuey teow". It was just horrible! =S

We headed to St. Andrew's Anglican Church for a youth seminar after breakfast. But we were early and the church was locked. So, guess what we did...We lepaked in the store right next to the church that was selling bathroom stuffs! =D (And who said Jing wasn't photogenic =P)

At 10:15 a.m. sharp, the seminar started with a time of prayer and worship. It was a little impromptu though, because the youth of the St. Andrew's Church wasn't told that they were to lead in worship. In the end, they used the worship songs from previous Friday Church Service.

Worship ended exactly as scheduled! O.O The first session out of five was led by Sieh Jin. All the sessions were based on the theme "Reach Out!". His session was entitled "Intro into Evangelism". He taught us about the methods of evangelism, through events, friendship, power, care, personal and media. That got me thinking about MYF. MYF has tried reaching out to people through events (MYF Christmas Party 2009), and I must say, it was a great success, and this Easter 2010 (it has passed though! XP It was a thought at that moment), we must try it again, REACH OUT! =D He also gave us examples in the bible where he asked us to act out the character out based on the passage. It was quite fun! I think it really set the mood of the youths attending the seminar.

After Sieh Jin's short sharing, we, SUSOMites did a short skit entitled "Heaven and Hell". =D

After the skit, Daniel Koo took the next session entitled "Understanding the Gospel of God".Before he started, he broke us up to groups and asked us to think of questions non-believers would ask about Jesus. In only 5 minutes, surprisingly, we came up with tons of questions. And surprisingly, most groups had jolted down Trinity of Christ (something I did not expect) in one of the questions most asked by non-Christians. My friends in school usually ask about the restrictions of what a Christian can eat or do, or what is church service about,... etc. But through the years, I have never encountered a friend of mine asking about the Trinity of Christ.

So, the first common question asked by non-believers; "Is there a God?". I think if I were a person looking for answers about God, this is the first question I would ask. Logical, right? So, as a Christian, how would you answer such a question?

Daniel Koo thought us 4 different methods; causality, rationality, morality and purpose.

The first method, causality. A method I think I would most use to answer such a question. First, ask yourself, if there was not a God, nothing created everything around us. Every single thing around us is a result of random occurrences, including yourself. Doesn't make sense right? So, if there was a God, everything is created by Him, for He is the Prefect Designer. Logical? Yes, I think so.

The second way, rationality. Using this method, if everything was not created by God, everything is an accident? Do you think this is a valid explanation? No, right? How can everything be created through accidents? Surely there is a smart designer and inventor behind it. If your rationality is randomly established, do you think your rationality is rational enough to judge the rationality about the existence of God?

Coming to the third method, morality! If there is no God, there is no moral consciousness within us, right? Because we are the results of random genetic exchange which to me, doesn't make sense, because we have morale, if we don't have moral consciousness, why are we learning Pendidikan Moral in schools? So, if there is a God, we are made in the image of God, with a moral consciousness.

The last method, purpose. If there is no God, we are purposeless, we are born just to live and die. We are just like hungry animals looking for food, merely just to pass time. But! If there is a God, we are created in His image and we have a purpose in life, to live for Him and try to lead a life according to Him.

Anyway, the next question a non-believer might ask would be "Aren't all Gods the same?". My personal opinion would be no, each religion has different moral principles and different restrictions. Do they look the same? Do they teach the same teaching? Many tend to think religion equals to moral education and tend to think they need not teach their kids anymore moral values because they have a religion, which is untrue, right? Because to have anything involves learning.

So, after asking that question and looking at the many religions of the world, which religion is the religion with the true God? Most religions have the tendency to claim a negative perspective on other religions. No religion supports another religion, because it is just merely impossible with different moral principles and all. And to determine which religion's God is the real God is also quite hard, because, if there is a God that is proven to be real, no other religions could exist. But, among all the religions, I find Christianity the most logical of them all.
